Question:

I wanted to get your opinion on some Sullivan peanuts. They are about 7 days away from digging. They received a little rain and the ground would be in good shape over the next few days with the rain that was just received. They are strip till peanuts planted flat and we are afraid with the forecast that the ground will be rock hard next week. This grower has about 240 acres and roughly half fits this category, the others missed rain for quite some time now and they are already extremely dry and ground very hard.( they are not recovering at night anymore). They are also about 7 days away but don’t know if they could dig those now because of very hard ground.

Jordan:

I’d dig now with soil conditions favorable. Might not realize 5% of yield by early digging but could lose even more if you wait for optimum maturity and soil gets too dry.
